Whats it all about?

The Customer department is made up of Marketing, Insight & intelligence, Propositions & Design. It’s the team that ensures all of our decisions are driven by our customers and insight. The role of the department is to shape the products we create with data and insight, build the most customer-centric experience there is, and create the Atom brand by promoting our key messages with attitude, confidence and intelligence.

The Head of PR & Comms is the key role in raising Atom’s profile, making the voice of the bank heard and celebrating successes. Providing challenge and expertise you’ll show leadership in narrative building and execution with journalists and agencies. Driving a proactive PR agenda and responding to all reactive media enquiries, establishing Atom as a challenger brand which is firmly on the consumer’s side. You’ll be confident and experienced in managing board, investors and the press in bringing a distinctive voice to internal and external communications, continuing to build the Atom brand as one that’s distinctive, provocative and full of intent.

Key relationships include the CCO, CEO, Chairman and Head of Brand and Marketing to continue to grow and manage the bank’s reputation with all external stakeholders creating brand presence, whilst raising the levels of recognition and supporting the drive to raise awareness and consideration with customers.

In relation to the Certification Regime you must:

  • assist the firm with their requirement to ensure that you remain fit and proper to perform your role
  • pay due regard to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements
  • help the bank to ensure the ongoing provision of fair customer outcomes

What will your ‘typical’ day look like…. (there’s no 2 days the same in Atom):

The key responsibilities of the Head of PR & Comms are:

  • Responsible for the development and delivery of Atom’s PR strategy
  • Lead the new PR and Comms team, integrating PR with internal communications, marketing and social activity to amplify brand / acquisition campaigns
  • Manage reputational risk, providing guidance and support to the wider business on Atom’s external profile
  • Provide strategic communication expertise and input to major Atom events and input into communication plans developed to communicate key changes to Atom staff
  • Deliver PR activities which result in follow-ship and sharing in the digital channels, e.g. blogger and social communities
  • Build the profile of core spokespeople to tell the Atom story, building our reputation and credibility with consumers, investors, regulators and the wider industry
  • Prioritise and plan a series of strategic external conference / speaking opportunities
  • Agency selection and relationship management.

Leadership and Coaching

  • Set and support the standards required within the PR and Comms team as well as contributing to the wider Chief Customer Office team to create a high performing culture and team
  • Team management and development ensuring the team are engaged and high performing work unit through the use of objective setting and personal development planning
  • Provide technical support and advice to the team providing oversight to their work and development s.

What do we need from you?

  • Strong PR background in financial services or closely related sector
  • Experience at leading a PR department/function
  • Demonstrable experience in managing brand level external comms and internal communications
  • Proven experience in delivering creative and innovative PR campaigns that drive results
  • Demonstrable experience in building key stakeholder profiles
  • Strong knowledge of using digital and social channels to harness PR opportunities
  • Evidenced network of external influencers and media contacts and internal communications
  • Comprehensive understanding and practical experience in managing external reputational risk/crisis management and experience of engaging staff at critical periods to ensure the appropriate action is taken
  • Commercially astute and customer oriented.

  • Technologically adept, able to advance the technology as well as the financial agenda for Atom
  • Educated to degree standard in a Marketing, PR or Communication related degree.
