Insight and Intelligence drives Atom.

The Insight and Intelligence team leverage Big Data technologies to maximise the returns from our data assets, by providing MI, exploratory analysis and predictive models which shape and deliver strategies in pricing, direct marketing, product optimisation, credit risk and fraud. In turn this helps Atom Bank demonstrate that it is meeting its regulatory requirements and providing direct assistance to customers in their day-to-day banking activities.

As a Lead Data Science Engineer you will support the Data Science Engineering Manager to lead the Data Team while focusing on technical excellence, delivery of strategic projects, and maintenance of Atom’s data estate.

Key to this role is the successful use of database and streaming techniques and methodologies to create an efficient, sustainable, and agile platform.

What will your ‘typical’ day look like…. (there’s no 2 days the same in Atom):

  • You will be required to build and maintain data ETL jobs and instil best practises within the team
  • Be responsible for integrating, consolidating, and transmitting data while maintain Atom’s high data quality standards
  • Required to liaise with senior stakeholders and regulators to gain an understanding of their requirements whilst possessing the ability to translate these business requirements into technical build items for the team
  • Responsible for the design and integrity of data solutions delivered to the business
  • Help with leading, managing and delivering all aspects of development activities to meet Atom’s needs while ensuring adherence to standards and governance
  • Help manage the competing priorities of a growing and dynamic organisation.

What do we need from you?

  • Experience in leading teams delivering data solutions
  • Hands-on experience in design, development and deployment of data solutions and the integration of new technologies as they develop
  • A background in data management preferably focused on data provision for analytics, using large and complex data
  • In-depth knowledge of Data Modeling, ETL development and Database/Data Warehousing, Structured and Unstructured data
  • A mixture of SQL and No-SQL technology experience and how these different approaches combine together
  • Know how data can be used to drive operational and strategic decisions
  • Possess a strong understanding of how Data Engineering and Data Analysis fits within Data Science and Business Intelligence workflows
  • Excellent analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding and delivery of Data Governance practices.

What would we ideally like from you?

  • A Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other relevant field; or equivalent work experience
  • Show a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving and strong attention to detail
  • Be familiar with the software engineering life cycle for development and the concepts and practices required to implement effective information systems.
