18 July 2014

Atom, the company creating the digital challenger bank in Durham, has selected NRG as their resourcing partner. The Newcastle based recruitment and solutions business is recognised UK-wide for delivering senior appointments and operational teams across many sectors and has particular expertise in financial services.

NRG will be working in partnership with Atom as the firm’s outsourced recruitment partner, including project management, attraction, resourcing and assessment, offer management referencing and vetting across all disciplines within the company’s structure.

The NRG team, headed by Therese Liddle, has significant expertise in both national and regional markets. Therese Liddle, Managing Director at NRG said: “We are delighted to be working with Atom. For anyone interested in financial services, digital and customer services Atom represents one of the most exciting opportunities in the country. We are finding high quality people from across the North East and the rest of the UK wanting to be part of the team as it builds to full mobilisation and launch over the next year.”

Stewart Bromley, Director of People and Customer Experience at Atom said: “As a start-up business we know that every appointment we make is critical. Great people are at the heart of every great business, so the quality of the team is our first concern. NRG are going to be making this a reality with us, and with posts being filled on a weekly basis from now on through to 2015 I’m looking forward to meeting more great candidates looking to make Atom a reality.”

Atom will launch with 170 staff and plans to grow to 420 within a few years. Recruitment is now underway in staged phases with start dates scheduled throughout 2014 and into 2015 for roles in the core of the bank’s operation from finance and risk to direct customer engagement. For candidates who share the Atom vision and have the appropriate skills these careers offer a fantastic opportunity to change banking for good and enjoy the very best of life in the North East.

The Atom Team

Editors notes: Atom isn’t yet a bank, but we’d like to be. So we’re applying to the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to become one.

Founded a year ago and based in the City of Durham, we have a growing team of people drawn from across the country working with local and national partners in the UK to help bring pioneering technology to Europe for the first time. We are building the UK’s first bank designed specifically for mobile digital technologies offering all day, every day banking and a very efficient cost model.

We have a highly experienced executive team, led by CEO Mark Mullen who has 25 years’ experience in commercial and retail banking and was previously CEO at the multi-award winning telephone and internet bank, first direct. He is supported by Dave McCarthy, Edward Twiddy, Stewart Bromley, Lisa Wood, Craig Iley, Rachel McLauchlen, Brian Seal, Andy Givens, Paul Hanks and Richard Baker – a senior team drawn from across the financial services and related industries.

We have a strong non-exec board; our Chairman Anthony Thomson was founder and former Chairman at Metro Bank. He is also Chairman of the Financial Services Forum, the UK’s leading membership organisation for senior FS industry executives and Chairman of the National Skills Academy for Financial Services, a national charity. Anthony is joined by non-executive directors Bridget Rosewell OBE, Patricia Jackson, John Deane and Jon Hogan.
