The People Experience team work hard to ensure that our past, present, and potential employees have an inspiring and memorable experience. The People Experience team is made up of Talent Acquisition, People Business Partners, People Operations, and Learning. Together they design, develop, and deliver an employee journey that represents Atom’s and its strong values throughout.

As Payroll and Benefits Officer, you’ll join the People Operations Team and be responsible for the coordination of the day-to-day payroll and benefits administration. You’ll work with an outsourced payroll bureau and third-party suppliers to ensure this service is delivered effectively, accurately and on-time.

Working closely with People Operations Lead, this is a key role in ensuring that monthly pay and benefits administration is accurate whilst providing a high quality and efficient service to employees and stakeholders across the business.

This role requires a minimum of 2 days per week in our Durham HQ.

What will you be doing?

You will:

  • Process Atom’s monthly payroll, including calculating and processing increases, back pays, leaver payments and other allowances.
  • Organise external stakeholders to ensure correct payments are made and appropriate information is provided to third parties such as HMRC and other statutory bodies.
  • Be the first point of contact to all employees for any pay and benefit related queries, whilst delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Coordinate employee benefits, including the group company pension, ensuring employees are enrolled and removed from benefits accurately.
  • Support with compensation and benefit related projects that support Atom’s wider engagement and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Support with the administration of employee equity share schemes including annual awards calculations and documentation issue.
  • Monitor inflation related market information, working with the People Experience team to provide recommendations on cost-of-living increases.
  • Ensure all payroll and benefits records are kept up to date in our systems and assist with quality control and maintenance of records to ensure accuracy and data integrity, aligned to GDPR legislation.
  • Report on relevant people metrics ensuring accurate data is collected, analysed on a routine basis.
  • Support with regulatory activities and the submission of statutory reports to the relevant authorities including, HMRC, PRA/FCA.

What do we need from you?

  • Hold a payroll qualification ideally CIPP or similar.
  • Extensive payroll experience.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation.
  • Strong Excel knowledge to undertake manual processing and calculation.
  • An understanding of HMRC requirements.
  • Excellent communicator (both written and verbal).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
