My Money Story: Real conversations about saving, spending and lending

Money. We all deal with it every single day. Yet we rarely sit down and talk about it honestly.

That’s exactly why we are incredibly excited to introduce our brand-new series: My Money Story.

What is My Money Story?

At Atom bank, we want to move away from purely transactional banking. We’ll be diving into the human ‘why’ behind how we manage our cash. This series is all about uncovering real financial journeys. We want to showcase the authentic stories of our saving and lending customers. You can expect real conversations with everyday people, sharing exactly how they save, spend and make their money work for them.

Maybe you’re just starting out on your savings journey. Or perhaps you’re saving for a comfortable retirement. You could be funding a big business venture or buying your first home. Wherever you are, My Money Story is here to inspire you. Everyone has a unique relationship with money, and we want to share that.

To kick things off, we didn’t have to travel very far. We decided to point the camera at our very own team right here at Atom HQ. We took a little trip down memory lane to see where it all began. Turns out, looking back at our earliest experiences with money says a lot about how we behave today. Here’s a sneak peek at the first two chapters from the team.

What was your first ever job?

Before the careers and the spreadsheets, there was the humble beginning. From paper rounds to pot washing, our earliest jobs gave us financial freedom. It was our very first taste of earning our own cash.

We asked the team at Atom bank HQ where they started out. The answers brought back a wave of pure nostalgia. Whether they might have been scrubbing pans or delivering papers in the freezing rain, those first gigs shaped our team’s relationship with a hard-earned pound.

What did you buy with your first pay cheque?

Remember that unforgettable feeling of seeing your name on a pay packet? You felt rich. But what did you actually do with it?

We found that whether we chose to save or spend that first pay cheque often set the tone for our money habits today. Some of the team splurged on items they’d been eyeing, while others carefully tucked their cash away. And, in many ways those same choices are still at odds today.
