We’re Atom bank

The bank that’s on a mission to make finance faster, simpler and way more human.

We’ve ditched the stuffy banking model to build something that actually works for our customers, whenever and wherever they need us. To make this happen, we’re looking for like-minded people who can help us reach our goals and think differently.

If you’re ready to build the future of banking, we’d love to meet you.

We really value in-person collaboration and this role requires regular attendance at our Newcastle HQ.

What will your ‘typical’ day look like? Different that’s for sure…:

Cost leadership is core to Atom’s strategy, and our Value Management team plays a pivotal role in optimising financial performance, cost control, and strategic value delivery.

We are looking for a Qualified Senior Manager to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This isn’t just a “high-level advisory” role - it requires a true balance of hands-on operational accounting execution and strategic financial modeling. You will take ownership of staff and non-staff month-end management accounts and outturn processes, lead through our key January-March budget cycle, and drive continuous process improvements across the bank

We are structuring this contract to allow for a comprehensive phased onboarding and handover period, giving you the time to get fully up to speed before stepping into full operational ownership and eventually executing a smooth phased handover back in 2028.

If you are an experienced, qualified finance professional who thrives on operational delivery, modern problem-solving, and strategic cost management, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Operational Accounting & Month-End: Manage and review staff and non-staff management accounts, outturns, and journal reviews, ensuring complete data integrity across financial systems.
  • Budgeting & Long-Term Planning: Lead the cost and capital expenditure modeling through the core January-to-March budget cycle, developing tools to project longer-term cost trajectories.
  • Cost Allocation & Modelling: Design, build, and maintain well-controlled cost allocation models to support business plan inputs, decision support, and segmentation analysis.
  • ExCo & Stakeholder Engagement: Present clear cost performance dashboards, risks, and opportunities to ExCo members and senior leadership, answering investor MI queries regarding the cost base.
  • AI & Automation Leadership: Actively embed an “AI and automation-first” mindset into cost workflows, identifying manual bottlenecks and designing streamlined solutions.

What do we need from you?

  • You must be a qualified accountant who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves to handle operational accounting details, review journals, and navigate P&L vs. Capex decisions
  • Proven experience in cost modeling, variance analysis, forecasting, and business partnering within financial services or a fast-growth environment
  • Practical familiarity with AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini) as your default resource for troubleshooting formulas, refining spreadsheets, and streamlining routine workflows.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the confidence to face into executive stakeholders, answer challenging financial questions, and navigate diverse leadership personalities.
  • A pragmatic approach to prioritising short-term operational priorities without losing sight of continuous improvement opportunities.

What you’ll get from us?

  • Hybrid working in Newcastle
  • 4-day work week
  • Discretionary cash bonus
  • Incredibly generous company pension scheme (maximum of 13% of Atom input – candidate can put in more) 22.5 days annual leave plus public holiday
  • Private Medical Insurance, Health Cash Plan, Life Insurance & Critical illness cover
  • £200 “All about me” fund
  • EV Scheme
