We’re Atom bank
The bank that’s on a mission to make finance faster, simpler and way more human.
We’ve ditched the stuffy banking model to build something that actually works for our customers, whenever and wherever they need us. To make this happen, we’re looking for like-minded people who can help us reach our goals and think differently.
If you’re ready to build the future of banking, we’d love to meet you.
We really value in-person collaboration and this role requires regular attendance at our Newcastle HQ.
What will your ‘typical’ day look like? Different that’s for sure…:
In our Credit Risk team, data isn’t just reported - it directly shapes how we manage retail credit risk across the entire customer journey, drives our P&L, and keeps the bank safe while supporting growth.
As a Junior Credit Risk Analyst, you will support the review, oversight, and strategic development of credit performance across all our lending products. You won’t just be crunching numbers in a silo; you’ll translate complex data into clear insights that directly inform lending strategies, automated credit decisions, and portfolio quality.
Eventually you will independently own and run our Credit Risk Management Information (MI) processes end-to-end for key governance committees. You won’t just compile the packs, you’ll spot emerging data trends, raise proactive alerts, and recommend concrete strategy adjustments to senior stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing:
- MI & Governance Reporting: Own the production and analysis of credit risk MI to ensure effective ongoing monitoring of all credit risk strategies.
- Portfolio & Trend Analysis: Perform comprehensive credit reporting and investigative analysis on new business flows, portfolio management, and credit quality.
- Strategy Optimisation: Support the development and refinement of credit risk and affordability strategies, helping implement champion:challenger tests to safely drive business growth.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal Commercial, Finance, and Operations/Underwriting teams, as well as external partners, to identify data sources and refine strategies.
- Data & Model Governance: Ensure all credit data, decision frameworks, and credit models are thoroughly and accurately documented and tested.
What do we need from you?
- Exceptional data manipulation, interpretation, and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong hands-on MS Excel skills for organising data, analysing trends, and building clear reports.
- Ability to translate complex quantitative data into plain English and deliver actionable business recommendations.
- Highly motivated and curious; you prefer digging into data to investigate solutions independently before escalating questions.
- We welcome candidates with strong data analysis experience from any sector! (Prior experience in retail credit risk, commercial credit, or mortgage underwriting is a great bonus, but not essential).
- Prior experience with (or an eagerness to learn) R, SAS, or Python is a plus, but not required as long as your core data skills in Excel are solid.
What you’ll get from us?
- Salary up to £36k
- Hybrid working in Newcastle
- 4-day work week
- Discretionary cash bonus
- Incredibly generous company pension scheme (maximum of 13% of Atom input – candidate can put in more) 22.5 days annual leave plus public holiday
- Private Medical Insurance, Health Cash Plan, Life Insurance & Critical illness cover
- £200 “All about me” fund
- EV Scheme
